Academic Qualifications

• Mandatory Subjects: Must pass Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, alongside Chemistry or a vocational technical subject. 

• Minimum Marks: General standard is 45% to 60% aggregate marks for most regular engineering colleges; premier institutes like IITs, NITs, and IIITs strictly require a minimum of 75% aggregate marks (or top 20 percentile) in the Class 12 board exam. 

• Reserved Categories: SC, ST, and PwD categories typically receive a relaxed minimum requirement of 40% to 65% aggregate marks depending on the governing council.

• Minimum Age: Candidates must complete 17 years of age.

• National Level:Qualification in national tests like JEE Main is mandatory for centralized admissions to NITs, IIITs, and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), and serves as the preliminary filter for IIT's JEE Advanced.
